1947 No. 374-variegated Whip-o-Lite shade. This is a very distinctive shade for 1947, but it seems the older shades from the early to mid 1930's were much more artistic and intricate in their designs.
The early to mid 1930's were the colorful years for Aladdin both for their glass lamps and the shades that adorned them. While many of the brochures from that era stressed how Aladdin shades were "hand-decorated", the phrase faded away in the mid to late 30's to be replaced by the new descriptive phrase "beautifully decorated". By the time 1940 was ushered in all the descriptive phrases were history. The new brochures referred to the shades simply as "Aladdin Whip-o-Lite shades." While Aladdin's Whip-o-lite shades, would exist for another decade, the colorful days in their history were over.
